MONDAY CLUBS

Spanish II (Monday)

Dates:  9/12, 9/19, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10, 10/24

Grades 1-5

This club is specially prepared for those students who have previously taken Beginner Spanish and/or already know colors and shapes and have more Spanish knowledge. Students will start using what they have already learned to start forming sentences and common use phrases. Games and music will be used to reinforce what they learn every week. Students who have previously taken Spanish will benefit from continued immersion and the revised curriculum of Spanish II.  This club is taught by a native spanish speaker from Mexico City with experience Sola Fide.

Coding Craziness (Monday)

Dates:  9/12, 9/19, 9/26, 10/3, 10/10, 10/24

Grades: 4th-5th
Description:  Are you the next Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs or Ruchi Sanghvi? As technology surrounds us, the need to know and understand computers is becoming more important! Whether you want to design an app for a smartphone, or invent a piece of medical technology, it all begins with coding.  We will explore coding using a combination of online coding sites and robots.  Join us for some coding craziness!

Tiger Rock Martial Arts (Wednesday)

Dates:  9/14, 9/21, 9/28, 10/12, 10/19, 10/26

Grades:  K-4
While participating in Tiger Rock Academy’s club at Cavett your child will work on physical skills such as balance, coordination, agility and endurance.  More importantly, your child will learn from our Life Skills curriculum that has been proven through university studies to to improve focus, listening, self-esteem, academic performance, and reduced fear of failure.  These are all factors that lead to success in school and the confidence to resist bullying, peer pressure and allow us to rise to every occasion, transforming the world for good.

*Please note, there is an additional required waiver for this club.

Chinese (Wednesday)

During the fall semester, Cavett Chinese Club will focus on Lunar New Year celebration, Chinese calligraphy and painting.  This club will help students learn and understand Chinese language and culture naturally through highly engaging activities, stories, games, music and arts.

Chess Club (Wednesday)

Dates:  9/14, 9/21, 9/28, 10/12, 10/19, 10/26

Grades:  1st-5th
Each student will learn the basic rules, fundamental principles, etiquette, and protocol of proper play.  Sessions will consist of half an hour of instruction and half an hour of practice time.  Students should expect to emerge from the class with enough knowledge to begin tournament play.  Chess club will be taught by James Walla, former president and treasurer, Nebraska State Chess Association. Currently, James serves on the board of the Lincoln Chess Foundation.  James has taught chess at many elementary schools in Lincoln since 2001 and he also teaches the Bright Lights chess class and the 4-H Clover College chess camp each summer.

Beginner Spanish (Wednesday)

In Beginner Spanish children will learn vowels, syllables, and how to start reading in Spanish. Kids will learn also colors and numbers from 1-20 and simple questions and answers. Crazy About Cats (Thursday)

Dates:  9/15, 9/22, 9/29, 10/13, 10/20, 10/27

Grades: K-1st
Description:  Learn more about your favorite felines through great cat literature and create/paint/draw/color a variety of furry friends in this club.  Cavett’s own, Mrs. Kitchen, will share her cat expertise and teach students how to incorporate creativity and their love of cats!

N Zone Jr. Beginning Soccer (Thursday)

Dates:  9/15, 9/22, 9/29, 10/13, 10/20, 10/27

Grades:  K-2
Description:  There’s a reason soccer is the most widely played sport in the world. N Zone Jr. Soccer allows children to learn the sport at their own pace. Sessions include age-specific instruction through a series of fun, interactive activities. Sessions also include exciting mini-games, where players will have a chance to display the skills their learning. Our curriculum centers around making each session fun, while learning important values like Teamwork, Focus, Sportsmanship and Self-Confidence to name a few. Each week a different value is incorporated into our teachings to help players understand there is much more to sports than just winning and losing.

*All students participating in this club will need to bring gym shoes, shin guards and a water bottle.

Curtain Up Club (Thursday)

Grades:  1-5
Description:  Students grades 1-5 are welcome to join The STAGE Theater’s “Curtain Up” Club where students will play theater games, create and write their own plays, and learn the basics of acting and performing. The STAGE prides itself on an inclusive, open, and creative atmosphere for all youth and all levels of theatrical experience. The goal of the club is to instill the love of the arts in young performers through a positive, fun, and educational experience.
