CURRICULUM
As part of the district technology plan, all LPS elementary schools are being encouraged to use computer labs as an extension of classroom instruction. Using computer labs in this manner provides teachers an extremely useful tool for enhancing instruction and accelerating student achievement.
To further capitalize on the growing relationship between technology and learning, the LPS Computing Services Department is working with each school to make technology an integral part of the instructional environment.
Elementary Technology Objectives
The elementary program emphasizes preparing today's students to become skilled and confident technology users, who can easily adapt to new technologies. Elementary school students participate in three major types of computer activities. Students gather information and support their learning by using developmentally appropriate resources such as interactive books, educational software, electronic encyclopedias, and the Internet. Students use computerized writing and drawing tools and digital cameras to communicate and illustrate their thoughts, ideas, and stories. In addition, students use technology to solve problems by writing Logo computer programs and by creating multimedia projects.
